Planning for Meet and Greet event, March 29, 2007
Decisions made
· Name of the event:
“Feel at Home in Richmond – Know Your Community / Neighborhood”
This is not another information fair about Richmond. The purpose is to bring citizens of Richmond together to discuss ways of making Richmond their home. They are encouraged to “do something”, to be engaged. We believe that everyone in the community has the capacity to act.
· Date:
One of these three days - June 18/19/20 (depending on venue availability)
· Time: 6:30 – 8:30 pm
· Who will be invited:
Through the contact channels of current RCEN members, aiming at 25-30 participants who are relatively “new” to Richmond
· What will the event be like:
- Introduction of RCEN and purpose of the Meet and Greet
- Ice breaker
- Story telling – about one’s life experience in the community / neighborhood (2-3 participants invited to speak)
- Historian telling the past of Richmond (possibly from the Richmond Archives)
- Small group discussions – participants’ feelings/concerns/interests about Richmond, and what they would like to do about their community and neighborhood
Potential topics of discussion:
- How to engage people in their community and neighborhood
- How to make their community and neighborhood more friendly and accessible to newcomers
· Special items:
- Food and refreshment sponsor
- Child care
- Resource persons (to provide community service and other information about Richmond)
· Next planning meeting: see To Do List on next page
