1. Network Structure
· A proposed Network structure was tabled by Michael and was unanimously approved.
o Co-convenors (one from the Civic Education Society, and one from a Richmond organization)
o Executive Committee: there could be up to 3 sub-committees (for M&G, Ad Hoc Activities, and Study Circles) but the Committee would work together as the core group of the Network
o Two types of membership: organizational members and individual members
o Anchor activities: quarterly Meet and Greet, monthly Network meetings (all members welcomed), Study Circles (proposal to be developed for funding application – see #3)
o Ad hoc activities: City Hall tours, Richmond historic tours, etc.
· Michael Yue (Civic Education Society) and De Whalen (Richmond Women’s Resource Centre) agreed to be the co-convenors of the Network. They would be focusing on the M&G and Study Circles respectively.
· Executive committee positions (Secretary, Treasurer, Communications, etc.)
· All members who were present in this meeting agreed to be on the Executive Committee. It was agreed that the Committee could have up to 12-15 members for more effective sharing of work.
· Details about the Executive Committee would be further discussed and decided in the next meeting.
2. Review of Meet and Greet
· Budget of the Coast Capital Savings funding (for M&G only) was tabled, and expenses of the first M&G were explained.
· The issue was raised about how open the Network should be regarding the participation of “advocacy and other partisan groups” in general and specifically at M&G. It was agreed that the Network would always remain neutral and non-partisan, and that our role was to provide a platform for exchange and learning.
· Guidelines/protocols for participation would be developed in the near future.
3. Study Circles
· Michael gave a brief description of Study Circles and proposed that the Network sought funding to develop Study Circles in Richmond as an alternative civic engagement method.
· It was unanimously agreed that the Network would pursue funding in developing Study Circles. One of the funding sources would be Coast Capital Savings.
4. Next RCEN Meeting:
· November 28, 2007 (6:30 – 8:30 pm)
· Place to be determined
